About Barry Moore
Card #462 in the sixth series of the 1968 Topps set shows Moore with the Washington Senators. In 1968 he worked mostly in relief, appearing in 32 games with only 18 starts, going 4-6 with a 3.37 ERA and 3 saves. At the plate he managed just a .097 average in 31 at-bats, with a single RBI.
Robert Barry Moore was a left-handed pitcher from Statesville, North Carolina, signed by the Washington Senators as an amateur free agent before the 1962 season. He debuted in relief on May 29, 1965 against the Minnesota Twins, and spent 1965-1969 with Washington before finishing his career in 1970 split between the Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox. His finest outing came against the Twins at D.C. Stadium on April 30, 1967, a one-hit complete-game shutout against a lineup that included Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew. Moore struggled with control throughout his career, walking 300 batters in 599.2 innings, well above the league average, while striking out 278. Over six major league seasons he compiled a 26-37 record with a 4.16 ERA across 140 pitching appearances, including 8 complete games, 1 shutout, and 3 saves. He was also a capable batter for a pitcher in some seasons but finished with a modest .151 career average.
