About Dick Bosman

1968 was Bosman's first full major-league season: 46 appearances including 10 starts, a 2-9 record but a respectable 3.69 ERA under new manager Jim Lemon, who replaced Gil Hodges, and one of only two big-league starters that year with double-digit starts and no complete games. This card is 1968 Topps #442 with the Washington Senators, issued in the set's fifth print series.

Richard Allen Bosman was a right-handed pitcher who spent eight seasons with the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers before finishing his career with Cleveland and Oakland. Signed by Pittsburgh in 1963, he was later drafted by the Senators and debuted in the majors on June 1, 1966. Bosman broke through in 1969 under new manager Ted Williams, going 14-5 and leading the American League with a 2.19 ERA as Washington posted its first winning season in franchise history. He won a career-high 16 games in 1970 and started both the final game for the Senators and the first game for the Rangers after the 1972 move to Texas. On July 19, 1974, pitching for Cleveland, he no-hit the defending World Series champion Oakland Athletics, missing a perfect game only because of his own fielding error. He closed his playing days with Oakland in 1975-76, then spent decades as a respected pitching coach for the White Sox, Orioles, Rangers and Rays organizations.
