1970 Topps #635 Bob Allison

About Bob Allison
Allison played 81 games in 1969 and hit .228 with 8 home runs and 27 RBIs, then went 0-for-8 as Baltimore swept Minnesota in the ALCS. Card #635 is a seventh-series high number and shows him with the Twins. He appeared in 47 games in 1970, batting .208, and played his last game on September 29 of that year.
William Robert Allison signed with the Washington Senators in January 1955 and spent his entire 13-year major league career, 1958 through 1970, with the Senators/Twins franchise, mostly in the outfield. He won the 1959 American League Rookie of the Year award after hitting 30 home runs and driving in 85, added All-Star selections in 1963 and 1964, and finished with 256 home runs and 796 RBI in 1,541 games. On July 18, 1962 he and teammate Harmon Killebrew became the first major league teammates of the modern era to hit grand slams in the same inning. The two were nicknamed 'Mr. Upstairs' (Killebrew) and 'Mr. Downstairs' (Allison), Killebrew's home runs arcing high while Allison's were low, hard line drives. Diagnosed after his playing days with the neurological disorder ataxia, he died in 1995 at age 60; he was later inducted into the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame, and the club created the Bob Allison Award in his memory.
