1971 Topps #99 Mark Belanger

About Mark Belanger
Belanger batted .266 for Baltimore in 1971 with 35 RBI and 67 runs. He played 149 games at shortstop and went 5-for-21 in the World Series against Pittsburgh. His Orioles card, #99, belonged to the first series of 1971 Topps.
Mark Belanger spent 17 seasons with Baltimore and one with the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning eight Gold Gloves at shortstop and a World Series championship with the 1970 Orioles. His tall, narrow frame earned him the nickname The Blade. Baltimore signed him out of Pittsfield High School in 1962 for $35,000, and he reached the majors as a pinch-runner on August 7, 1965. Across 18 seasons he collected 1,316 hits and batted .228. He served as the Orioles' player representative, took part in the 1981 strike negotiations and worked for the players' association after retiring. Baltimore inducted him into its team Hall of Fame in 1983.
