The story on this card

Rookie Stars #529 groups three players from three different clubs: Enzo Hernandez with the San Diego Padres, Bill Buckner with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Marty Perez with the Atlanta Braves. It is the rookie card for Hernandez and Perez. Hernandez opened 1971 as the Padres starting shortstop, debuted April 17 against St. Louis, played 143 games, hit .222 and stole 21 bases. Enzo Hernandez was the San Diego Padres regular shortstop for most of 1971 through 1976, a Venezuelan glove man who stole 129 bases in the majors. He wore number 11 in tribute to Luis Aparicio and finished with a .224 average.

Buckner won the Dodgers' opening-day right field job in 1971 and homered on April 6 off Houston's Don Wilson for the only run in a 2-0 win. He hit a grand slam against Pittsburgh on July 27, finished at .277 in 108 games, and was named an outfielder on the Topps Rookie All-Star Team. Card #529 is a three-man Rookie Stars card from the fifth series with Enzo Hernandez of the Padres and Marty Perez, printed with the Braves. Bill Buckner was a Dodgers outfielder who became a first baseman with the Cubs, won the 1980 NL batting title and collected 2,715 hits, but is best known for the Game 6 error in the 1986 World Series with Boston.

Perez shares the 1971 Rookie Stars card #529, from the fifth series, with Enzo Hernandez of the Padres and Bill Buckner of the Dodgers; it is Perez's and Hernandez's rookie card, and Perez is pictured with the Braves. He had arrived from the Angels in an October 21, 1970 deal and won the shortstop job, with second baseman Felix Millan counseling him on play up the middle. He hit .227 with four home runs and 32 RBI, and his first homer came June 19 off Cincinnati's Jim Merritt. Shortstop and second baseman for the Angels, Braves, Giants, Yankees and Athletics from 1969 to 1978. He started for Atlanta from 1971 to 1975, led National League second basemen in fielding percentage in 1974, and hit .246 in 931 games.
