1971 Topps #424 Roberto Rodriguez
Uncorrected error: The card misspells his last name "Rodriquez".

About Roberto Rodriguez
Roberto Rodriguez appeared in 42 games in 1970, all in relief, going 3-2 with a 5.50 ERA and 5 saves. His 1971 Topps card, #424, from the fourth series, shows him with Chicago and is catalogued with an uncorrected error. He spent 1971 with the Tacoma Cubs, starting 26 games and posting a 4.01 ERA over 204 innings.
Roberto Rodriguez, a right-handed pitcher from Caracas, Venezuela, signed with the Kansas City Athletics as an amateur free agent in 1963. After converting from catcher to pitcher in his first pro season, he advanced through the Athletics' system, and a strong 1967 showing at Triple-A Vancouver earned him a major-league call-up. He worked a mixed repertoire built on a variable fastball, slider, curveball and circle change, relying on guile more than raw velocity. His two-season big-league career spanned 1967 with Kansas City and 1970 with Oakland, San Diego and Chicago, and included his only career hit, a home run off Pat Jarvis. Rodriguez pitched winter ball in Venezuela for 17 seasons under his paternal surname, Munoz, and became the first pitcher in that league's history to reach 50 wins and 50 saves. He was nicknamed Pluto. He later coached in Venezuela, including at a Maracay baseball academy, and was inducted into the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011. He died in Maracay in 2012.
