About this card
Cards #596-608 are the thirteen four-player Rookie Prospects cards, each titled by position. A Rookie Prospects card is a rookie card for the players on it who had no earlier Topps flagship card - on #601, #603, #604, #605 and #608 one of the four had already appeared on one, and the rookie-card answer on each card names the players it counts for.
The story on this card
Foote hit .262 with 11 home runs and 60 RBI for the 1974 Expos. He played 125 games and led the league with 12 sacrifice flies. His rookie card, #603, is a four-player Rookie Prospects card that pairs him as an Expo with Tom Lundstedt of the Cubs, Charlie Moore of the Brewers and Sergio Robles of the Orioles. Barry Foote was a catcher, the third overall pick in 1970, who started for Montreal in 1974 and for the Cubs in 1979. Injuries limited him to 687 games and 57 home runs with four clubs through 1982.
Lundstedt's 1973 consisted of four games for the Cubs, all behind the plate, beginning with his debut on August 31; he went hitless in five at-bats. He shares #603 with Barry Foote of the Expos, Charlie Moore of the Brewers and Sergio Robles of the Orioles in the Rookie Prospects subset. It is the rookie card of Lundstedt, Foote and Moore. Tom Lundstedt was a switch-hitting catcher out of the University of Michigan who played 44 games for the Cubs and Twins from 1973 to 1975. Chicago drafted him in 1970, and Minnesota acquired him for Mike Adams.
Moore shares #603 with Barry Foote of the Expos, Tom Lundstedt of the Cubs and Sergio Robles of the Orioles, and it is the rookie card for Moore, Foote and Lundstedt. It pictures him as a Brewer after the eight-game September 1973 call-up in which he went 5-for-27. In 1974 he played 72 games, 61 of them at catcher, and hit .245. Charlie Moore caught and played right field for the Milwaukee Brewers from 1973 to 1986, then spent 1987 with Toronto. He hit for the cycle and stole two bases in one game in 1980 and hit .346 in the 1982 World Series.
Robles went home to Mexico after Rochester was eliminated from the playoffs on September 7, 1973, and two days later Ellie Hendricks broke his ankle. The Orioles searched both countries until he phoned from Nogales and agreed to report; he played eight games and went 1 for 13. He reported late again in spring 1974 and in late March joined the Diablos Rojos of Mexico City. Rookie Prospects card #603 puts him with Barry Foote of the Expos, Tom Lundstedt of the Cubs and Charlie Moore of the Brewers. Mexican catcher known for his throwing arm, who played 16 games for the Orioles and Dodgers across 1972, 1973 and 1976 and spent 19 winters with the Hermosillo Naranjeros; a member of the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame.
