About this card

A Rookie Prospects card is a rookie card for the players on it who had no earlier Topps flagship card - on #601, #603, #604, #605 and #608 one of the four had already appeared on one, and the rookie-card answer on each card names the players it counts for.

The story on this card

In 1974 Foster played 43 games at shortstop and 10 at second base for Atlanta, hitting .196 with one home run and five RBIs. His #607 is a Rookie Prospects card with four players, each printed with his own club: Foster with the Braves, Tom Heintzelman with the Cardinals, Dave Rosello with the Cubs and Frank Taveras with the Pirates. It is the rookie card for all four. Leo Foster was an infielder who played 144 games for the Braves and Mets between 1971 and 1977. His first big-league game, at Pittsburgh, included an early error, a double play and a triple play. He played 72 games for Atlanta in 1974.

Heintzelman's debut came on August 12, 1973, and he finished that year with 9 hits in 29 at-bats, a .310 average over 23 games for the Cardinals. Six of those games came at second base. He is one of four Rookie Prospects on #607, alongside Leo Foster of the Braves, Dave Rosello of the Cubs and Frank Taveras of the Pirates, and it is the rookie card of all four. Tom Heintzelman, a right-handed infielder, played 90 games for the St. Louis Cardinals (1973-74) and San Francisco Giants (1977-78). A seventh-round pick in 1968, he spent 1969-70 in the Army, and his father Ken Heintzelman pitched 13 major league seasons.

Rosello appeared in 62 games for the 1974 Cubs, 49 at second base and 12 at shortstop, and hit .203 with 10 RBI. His #607 card is his rookie card, a four-man Rookie Prospects issue shared with Leo Foster of the Braves, Tom Heintzelman of the Cardinals and Frank Taveras of the Pirates, and it lists him with the Cubs. Puerto Rican infielder who played for the Cubs from 1972 to 1977 and the Indians from 1979 to 1981. He started at shortstop for Chicago in 1976 and hit .236 with 10 home runs in 422 major-league games.

The Pirates released veteran shortstop Dal Maxvill on April 20, 1974, and Taveras split the job with Mario Mendoza before taking it over in the second half. He committed 31 errors but credited second baseman Rennie Stennett with helping him improve in the field. Batting coach Bob Skinner encouraged him to choke up on the bat. His rookie card is #607, a four-man Rookie Prospects card shared with Leo Foster of the Braves, Tom Heintzelman of the Cardinals and Dave Rosello of the Cubs. Frank Taveras was the Pirates' shortstop from 1974 to 1978, a Dominican speedster who stole 70 bases in 1977. He later played for the Mets and Expos.
