About Bob McClure
The Brewers' #623 lists McClure with Milwaukee. In 1979 he pitched 36 games and 51 innings, all out of the bullpen. He went 5-2 with a 3.88 ERA and 5 saves. The 1980 season brought five starts among his 52 appearances.
Bob McClure was a left-handed reliever and spot starter who pitched 19 major league seasons, 1975 to 1993, for the Royals, Brewers, Expos, Mets, Angels, Cardinals and the expansion Marlins. Born in Oakland, he went to Terra Nova High School and the College of San Mateo, and Keith Hernandez was his Little League and high school teammate. The Dodgers drafted him in January 1973 but he did not sign, and the Royals took him in the June secondary phase. With Milwaukee he led the club in saves in 1978 and 1980 and was moved into the rotation in 1982, going 12-7 for the American League champions. He returned to the bullpen for the postseason, saved Games Four and Five of the 1982 World Series against St. Louis and blew the save in the decisive Game Seven. His 1989 season with the Angels produced a 6-1 record and a 1.55 ERA. He finished 68-57 with a 3.81 ERA and 52 saves in 698 games. He later coached pitchers for the Rockies organization, the Royals, the Red Sox and the Phillies.
