1979 Topps #443 Bruce Bochte

About Bruce Bochte
In 1979 Bochte took the field at first base in 147 games for Seattle. He was the only Mariner on the American League roster for the All-Star Game at the Kingdome. There he drove in a run with a single in the sixth inning and moved Brian Downing to second with a sacrifice in the eighth. His 1979 Topps card is #443, in a Mariners uniform.
Bruce Bochte was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder who played 12 American League seasons for the Angels, Indians, Mariners and Athletics between 1974 and 1986. A Santa Clara product, he was the Angels' second-round pick in 1972 and debuted July 19, 1974. Cleveland acquired him in May 1977, and he signed with Seattle as a free agent after that season. In 1979 with the Mariners he set career highs in virtually every major offensive category, hitting .316 with 16 home runs and 100 RBI, and was named to the American League All-Star team. He sat out the entire 1983 season, saying he was fed up with the business of baseball, then returned with Oakland for 1984 through 1986. He finished with 1,478 hits in 1,538 games and a .282 average. His career totals include 100 home runs and 658 RBI. Santa Clara inducted him into its athletic hall of fame in 1987.
