1979 Topps #688 Mike Willis

About Mike Willis
An 8-1 victory over Ron Guidry and the Yankees on September 20, 1978 was Willis's only major league complete game. He made 2 starts among 44 appearances that season and saved 7 games for Toronto. Topps assigned his 1979 Blue Jays card #688.
Mike Willis pitched in 144 major league games for Toronto from 1977 through 1981, making six starts and recording 15 saves. The left-hander struck out 149 batters in 296 innings. He graduated from Vanderbilt in 1972 and joined Baltimore's farm system after the Orioles selected him in the twentieth round of that year's draft. At Vanderbilt he had pitched a no-hitter against Louisville in March 1971, striking out 14. Willis used a screwball and spent three seasons at Triple-A Rochester before reaching the majors. After his playing career, he returned to baseball as a pitching coach in Philadelphia's minor league system.
