About Moose Haas

An elbow injury limited Haas to seven appearances in 1978. He spent the offseason strengthening the arm and stayed in Arizona for extra work before making his first start two weeks into the 1979 season. His Brewers card was #448 in 1979 Topps. He finished 11-11 with 8 complete games and his first major-league shutout.

Moose Haas pitched for Milwaukee for ten seasons before finishing his major-league career with Oakland in 1986 and 1987. The Brewers selected the Baltimore right-hander in the second round of the 1974 draft. His father, Bud, had given him the nickname Moose as a baby because of his broad shoulders. Haas won 100 games with a 4.01 ERA across 12 seasons. In 1980 he set personal highs with 16 victories, 252 1/3 innings and 146 strikeouts. He won Game 4 of the 1982 ALCS against California, keeping Milwaukee in a series it won the next day. In 1983 he went 13-3 with a 3.27 ERA and three shutouts.
