The story on this card
After playing 53 games and hitting 3 home runs for Philadelphia in 1978, Morrison shared the Phillies Prospects rookie card, #722 in 1979 Topps, with Lonnie Smith and Jim Wright. He played for the White Sox during 1979, batting .275 with 14 home runs in 67 games. Former Pirates infielder Jim Morrison recalled homering on the next pitch after baseball entertainer Max Patkin stopped a minor league game and kissed him on the cheek. Morrison had not recognized Patkin when he came to bat.
Smith led his league with 66 stolen bases for Oklahoma City in 1978 before appearing in 17 games for Philadelphia, scoring 6 runs and stealing 4 bases. His 1979 Topps rookie card, #722, paired him with Jim Morrison and Jim Wright on the Phillies' Prospects card. Braves outfielder Lonnie Smith hit a grand slam in Game 5 of the 1992 World Series against Toronto. In the 1991 Series against Minnesota, he had hit 3 home runs.
A Phillies pitching prospect in spring training in 1979, Wright broke his arm while throwing a pitch. His rookie card appeared in that year's Topps Prospects group on #722, shared with Jim Morrison and Lonnie Smith. All 3 were listed with Philadelphia. Kansas City pitcher Jim Wright worked 52 innings in 17 games during 1981, including 4 starts. He won 2 games and struck out 27 batters in his first major-league season.
