About Bob Kennedy

Bob Kennedy (1920–2005) was a strong-armed right fielder and third baseman signed at age 16 by his hometown Chicago White Sox in 1937, debuting in the majors in 1939. His career was interrupted by World War II, when he served as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot and flight instructor from 1943 to 1945, famously training fellow ballplayer Ted Williams at Pensacola. Over 16 seasons through 1957 he suited up for the White Sox, Cleveland Indians (1948–54), Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers, and Brooklyn Dodgers, batting .254 with 63 home runs and 514 RBI across 1,483 games. Traded to Cleveland in June 1948, he hit .301 down the stretch and won a World Series ring, delivering an RBI single in Game 2; he called his Cleveland years the best of his career. Renowned for his throwing arm, he started two triple plays from right field in 1950. Kennedy later managed the Chicago Cubs (1963–65) and Oakland Athletics (1968) and served as a front-office executive into the 1990s.

Double Print

Marked DP. Roughly 50% more of these cards were printed than their neighbors (the hobby calls it 'double-printed'), so they are the most plentiful cards in the set. TCDB flags 103 of them, concentrated in the low series. Five cards normally in the low run - #94, #107, #131, #145 and #156 - were also printed on the more-plentiful #166-220 sheet. A print-quantity designation, not an error or a separate card.
