About Stan Jok

Stanley Edward Jok (May 3, 1926 - March 6, 1972) was a right-handed third baseman from Buffalo, New York, whose 1954 Topps card (#196, Philadelphia Phillies) is his rookie card. A career minor-league slugger who hit 192 home runs across 14 seasons - and was a fixture in the Triple-A International League, appearing in 1,149 games for seven clubs between 1950 and 1961 - Jok finally reached the majors when the Phillies gave him a look to open 1954. Used only as a pinch-hitter in three games, he went hitless and was placed on waivers, then claimed by the Chicago White Sox. Recalled that September, he collected his first big-league hit, an RBI single off Art Houtteman. Back with the 1955 White Sox, Jok belted his only major-league home run on May 1 at Comiskey Park, a solo shot off Jim McDonald of the Baltimore Orioles. His entire MLB resume spanned just 12 games: a .158 average (3-for-19) with 1 home run and 4 RBI before he returned to the minors for good.
