About Jack Green

Jack Green anchored the interior line of Army's wartime juggernaut, playing guard for the Cadets from 1943 through 1945 after a freshman year at Tulane. He was a first-team All-American in 1944, a consensus All-American in 1945, and captain of the unbeaten 1945 team that hammered Notre Dame 48-0 as Army rolled to back-to-back national championships behind Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis. Remembered as one of the finest guards ever to play at West Point, the 5-foot-11, 190-pounder also wrestled at the Academy. Green served out his five-year military commitment, then spent fourteen years in coaching, assisting Earl Blaik at Army in 1946 and working at Tulane, Florida, Kansas, and Baylor around a four-season stint as Vanderbilt's head coach from 1963 to 1966. He died in Nashville in 1981 and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989.
