About Ed Roebuck
A relief pitcher out of the Pennsylvania coal country, Ed Roebuck was born July 3, 1931, in East Millsboro and signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization in 1949, spending several seasons in the minors - winning 45 games over three years for the Triple-A Montreal Royals - before debuting on April 18, 1955. Card #195 is his rookie card, issued the year the Dodgers finally won it all: Roebuck pitched two scoreless innings in relief in Game 6 of the 1955 World Series, and Brooklyn took Game 7 for its only championship. The right-hander pitched 11 major-league seasons (1955-1958, 1960-1966) for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Senators, and Philadelphia Phillies, going 52-31 with a 3.35 ERA, 62 saves, and 477 strikeouts across 460 games, almost all in relief. Renowned as one of the game's finest fungo hitters, he was reportedly consulted on how high to build the roof of the Houston Astrodome. Roebuck later scouted for decades and died June 14, 2018, at 86.

Series 2 (#161-210) shipped in the fall against the new football-card season, so retailers cut their orders and far fewer were printed.
