About Bob Milliken
Robert Fogle "Bob" Milliken (1926-2007), a right-handed pitcher from Majorsville, West Virginia, worked his way up through the minors with Fort Worth (1948-49) and Montreal (1950) and served in the military in 1951-52 before reaching the Brooklyn Dodgers. He spent both of his major-league seasons (1953-54) in Brooklyn as a reliever and spot starter. As a rookie in 1953 he went 8-4 with a 3.37 ERA and 65 strikeouts over 37 appearances, helping the Dodgers clinch the National League pennant, and he tossed two innings of shutout relief against the New York Yankees in that fall's World Series. He followed with a 5-2, two-save 1954, but arm trouble ended his big-league career. Over 61 games he compiled a 13-6 record, a 3.59 ERA, four saves, and 90 strikeouts. Milliken later returned to the majors as a batting-practice pitcher and pitching/bullpen coach with the St. Louis Cardinals (1965-70, 1976), part of a career that spanned some 58 years in the game.
