About the 1957 Chicago White Sox
The 1957 Chicago White Sox went 90-64 under manager Al López, finishing second in the American League, eight games behind the pennant-winning New York Yankees. Playing at Comiskey Park, the "Go-Go Sox" leaned on speed, defense, and pitching. Second baseman Nellie Fox hit .317, and left fielder Minnie Miñoso batted .310 with 103 RBIs; Fox, Miñoso, and catcher Sherm Lollar all won Gold Gloves. The staff was anchored by 20-game winner Billy Pierce (20-12, 3.26 ERA) and Dick Donovan (16-6, 2.77). The Yankees lost the 1957 World Series to the Milwaukee Braves in seven games. This second-place club was a building block toward Chicago's 1959 AL pennant.
