Minnie Minoso - 1957 Topps #138
1957 Topps #138 Minnie Minoso
Uncorrected error: Born in '25, not '23. It was never corrected, so there is only one version of the card.
The #176 "Bakep" error: the back header reads "EUGENF W. BAKEP," the whole name garbled on the printing plate. It is the ONLY error Topps corrected in 1957, which is why the error back carries the premium — a PSA population near 215, topping out at PSA 8.

About Minnie Minoso
Saturnino Orestes Armas "Minnie" Miñoso broke into pro ball with Havana's Ambrosia Candy team in 1943 and signed with the Negro National League's New York Cubans in 1946 as a third baseman. He reached the majors with the Cleveland Indians in 1949, then in 1951 became the first Black player in White Sox history, homering in his first at-bat off Vic Raschi. A left fielder, he was a nine-time All-Star, won three Gold Gloves, and led the American League in stolen bases three times and in triples three times. He finished second in the 1951 AL Rookie of the Year vote and retired with 2,113 hits, 195 home runs and a .299 average. A pioneer for Latino players, he later became just the second man to play in the majors across five decades, via cameos in 1976 and 1980. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2021 and inducted in 2022. This card carries an uncorrected error, listing his birth year as 1923 rather than the credible 1925.
