1957 Topps #341 Don Gross
Scarce fourth series: #265-352 is the tough run of the 1957 set — roughly twice as hard to find as the other series ("tough, not rare"). No documented reason survives; the best-researched account is that Topps printed the hastily assembled final series in quantity and left Series 4 with the shortest run.

About Don Gross
Donald John Gross (June 30, 1931 - August 10, 2017) was a left-handed pitcher born in Weidman, Michigan. He became a lefty after breaking his right arm in a washing machine at age seven. Signed by Cincinnati out of Michigan State, he reached the majors in 1955 and pitched for the Redlegs (1955-1957) and Pittsburgh Pirates (1958-1960), going 20-22 with a 3.73 ERA over 145 games. In 1957 The Sporting News listed him among the National League's best young pitchers; on May 28 he no-hit Milwaukee for 7 1/3 innings before losing 1-0 to Warren Spahn. That December he was traded for Bob Purkey, who became an All-Star, making the deal one of Pittsburgh's regrettable ones. This scarce Series Four #341 is his Topps rookie card.
