Uncorrected error: Called "Raul" in text on back. It was never corrected, so there is only one version of the card.
The #176 "Bakep" error: the back header reads "EUGENF W. BAKEP," the whole name garbled on the printing plate. It is the ONLY error Topps corrected in 1957, which is why the error back carries the premium — a PSA population near 215, topping out at PSA 8.
About Juan Pizarro
Juan Ramón Pizarro Córdova (1937-2021), a left-handed pitcher from Santurce, Puerto Rico, signed with the Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and, after going 23-6 with a 1.77 ERA at Class A Jacksonville, debuted for Milwaukee on May 4, 1957. Nicknamed "Terín" as a boy because neighborhood kids likened him to the hero of the comic strip "Terry and the Pirates," he pitched 18 major-league seasons for eight clubs. As a rookie he shared in the Braves' 1957 World Series title, appearing in Game Three, and also pitched in the 1958 Series. He blossomed after a 1961 trade to the Chicago White Sox, earning American League All-Star selections in 1963 and 1964 and peaking at 19-9 with a 2.56 ERA in 1964. Pizarro finished 131-105 with a 3.43 ERA and 1,522 strikeouts, and dominated Puerto Rico's winter league, where he remains the all-time leader in strikeouts and shutouts. This 1957 Topps issue is his rookie card; the back's biography misidentifies him as "Raul."
