1957 Topps #382 Jim Brideweser

About Jim Brideweser
Jim Brideweser (James Ehrenfeld Brideweser, 1927-1989) was a light-hitting shortstop who attended the University of Southern California and signed with the New York Yankees before the 1950 season, debuting in the majors on September 29, 1951. Over seven seasons he was a utility infielder for the Yankees (1951-1953), Baltimore Orioles (1954, 1957), Chicago White Sox (1955-1956) and Detroit Tigers (1956), passing through a flurry of trades that involved players such as Bob Chakales, Clint Courtney, Harry Byrd and Jim Delsing. Purchased by the Orioles in May 1954, he hit .265 in 73 games. He returned to Baltimore for his final 1957 season, batting .268 and hitting the only home run of his career, a three-run shot off Boston's Frank Sullivan. He retired with a .252 average, 156 hits and 50 RBI in 329 games, then earned teaching credentials and taught mathematics and coached championship baseball at Redondo Union High School in California. This is his sole solo card in the 1957 Topps set.
