1957 Topps #266 Ken Kuhn

also known as Kenny Kuhn
Cleveland Indians · American League · Series 4 (#265-352) · infield
Rookie CardScarce Series 4DP

Beckett lists Kuhn among the 22 Series 4 double prints, and 2025 Net54 press-sheet research confirms he is the 22nd card (two full 11-card press rows) — the 21-card lists in other catalogs dropped him in transcription. The same research indicates none of the 22 were actually printed in greater quantity.

Scarce fourth series: #265-352 is the tough run of the 1957 set — roughly twice as hard to find as the other series ("tough, not rare"). No documented reason survives; the best-researched account is that Topps printed the hastily assembled final series in quantity and left Series 4 with the shortest run.

Double print (traditional designation): one of the 22 Series 4 cards Beckett lists as double prints. Press-sheet research (Net54 2025 / Topps Archives 2026) shows the 22 occupy exactly two full 11-card press rows and were NOT actually printed in greater quantity — the "DP" label is a catalog tradition kept because collectors expect it.

About Ken Kuhn

Kenneth Harold Kuhn (1937–2010) starred in four sports—baseball, football, basketball, and track—at Louisville Male High School, hailed in 1955 as "possibly the greatest all-around athlete ever to come out of Louisville." Cleveland signed the teenage shortstop as a bonus baby, with general manager Hank Greenberg calling him "the finest young infielder I've seen in a long time," and he went straight to the majors, debuting July 7, 1955, at age 18. Over three seasons with the Indians (1955–57), the lefty-hitting infielder appeared in 71 games at shortstop, second, and third base, batting .210 with seven RBIs, then played in the minors through 1963, including with the Texas League's Dallas Rangers. He later worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mister Donut, and died of pancreatic cancer in 2010 at age 73. This card, #266 from the scarce fourth series, is his Topps rookie card and one of the 22 Series 4 "double prints"—though modern press-sheet research indicates none were actually printed in greater numbers.
