The story on this card

Card 144 in the 1963 Topps set is a World Series subset card from print series 2, recapping Game 3 of the 1962 World Series between the Yankees and Giants at Yankee Stadium. The front pictures Roger Maris. Scoreless into the seventh, the Yankees broke through when Maris singled home two runs off Giants starter Billy Pierce, then scored on Clete Boyer's groundout off reliever Don Larsen. Giants catcher Ed Bailey answered with a two-out, two-run homer in the ninth off Bill Stafford, but it left the Giants a run short as the Yankees won 3-2. The victory put New York ahead two games to one in a Series it went on to win in seven, its 20th championship.
