1970 Topps #667 Bob Meyer

About Bob Meyer
Meyer's 1969 with the Seattle Pilots was his first major league work since 1964. He made six appearances, five of them starts, and finished 0-3 with a 3.31 ERA. He took the loss in a 2-1 decision at Kansas City on September 16. His card, #667, lists him with the Pilots and is a high number from the seventh series of the 1970 Topps set.
Robert Bernard Meyer was a left-handed pitcher from Toledo, Ohio. He signed with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1960 and spent parts of three big-league seasons in the American League, with the Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Athletics, Seattle Pilots and Milwaukee Brewers. His first major league strikeout victim was future Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. Pitching for Kansas City in 1964, Meyer and Baltimore's Frank Bertaina each threw complete-game one-hitters on September 12, though the Athletics lost 1-0 on a Jackie Brandt sacrifice fly. He also beat Kansas City with six scoreless innings that June and outdueled Baltimore with a six-hit complete game that September, and in 1969 he pitched the first nine innings, allowing one unearned run, in a 13-inning win over the Yankees. Meyer finished his career with two wins and 92 strikeouts over 129 1/3 innings.

Why does this card say Seattle Pilots?
Because the card prints the Seattle Pilots, and it is correct as printed: the franchise played the 1970 season as the Milwaukee Brewers, but thirty 1970 Topps cards print the Pilots - the #713 team card, #556 Dave Bristol's manager card, the #88 Pilots Rookie Stars and twenty-seven player cards. 1970 Topps is the second and last Topps flagship set with Seattle Pilots cards.
