About this card

Cards #305-310 follow the 1969 World Series, the New York Mets over the Baltimore Orioles, game by game - Games 1 through 5 - and close with #310, the Mets' celebration.

The story on this card

The Mets won the 1969 World Series four games to one over a Baltimore club that had won 109 games. The Mets were in their eighth season and became the first expansion team to win a division title, a pennant and a World Series. They had won 100 games under Gil Hodges and swept Atlanta in the first National League Championship Series. Baltimore hit .146 for the five games, 23 hits in all, and .134 over the last four. Donn Clendenon was Series MVP with three homers, in Games 2, 4 and 5, and Ed Kranepool homered in Game 3, so Mets first basemen went deep in each of their four wins. Game 5 ended with fans rushing the field at Shea Stadium. Topps printed the 1970 card #310 in the third series.
