The story on this card
Game 5 of the 1969 World Series, played October 16 at Shea Stadium before 57,397 fans, ended 5-3 for the Mets over Baltimore and gave them the Series four games to one. Dave McNally hit a two-run homer off Jerry Koosman in the third, and Frank Robinson homered two batters later for a 3-0 Orioles lead. Koosman then retired 19 of the next 21 batters, allowing a single and a walk. Cleon Jones was awarded first base on the shoe-polish pitch in the sixth, and Donn Clendenon followed with his third homer of the Series to make it 3-2. Al Weis homered to tie it in the seventh, and Ron Swoboda doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth. Davey Johnson flied out to Jones for the final out and Koosman's second win of the Series. Topps #309 covers the game under Koosman's name and was printed in the third series.
