About this card

Cards #305-310 follow the 1969 World Series, the New York Mets over the Baltimore Orioles, game by game - Games 1 through 5 - and close with #310, the Mets' celebration.

The story on this card

The Mets won Game 4 of the 1969 World Series 2-1 in ten innings at Shea Stadium on October 15, and J.C. Martin's bunt decided it. Donn Clendenon's second-inning home run off Mike Cuellar gave Tom Seaver his lead, and Ron Swoboda's diving catch of a Brooks Robinson liner in the ninth held the Orioles to one run. In the tenth, Jerry Grote opened with a bloop double and Al Weis was walked intentionally. Gil Hodges sent Martin up for Seaver, and his sacrifice bunt was fielded by Pete Richert, whose throw hit Martin in the wrist, and the ball went down the right field line. Rod Gaspar, running for Grote, scored the winning run. The Mets took Game 5 and the Series. Topps #308 is part of the 1970 World Series subset (#305-310) and was printed in the third series.
