The story on this card

Card #68 in the 1971 Topps League Leaders subset posts the 1970 National League ERA board. Tom Seaver of the Mets topped it at 2.82 and also led the league with 283 strikeouts. Wayne Simpson of the Reds followed at 3.02 with a 14-3 record and an All-Star selection. Luke Walker of the Pirates was third at 3.04 after a 15-6 year split between starting and relief work. Walker's Pittsburgh club won the NL East, then lost the NLCS in three straight games to Simpson's Reds.

Tom Seaver won 311 games and three National League Cy Young Awards across 20 seasons. The Mets' right-hander helped win the 1969 World Series and entered the Hall of Fame in 1992. Wayne Simpson - Right-handed Cincinnati Reds pitcher who won 14 games as a 1970 rookie and made the All-Star team before a torn rotator cuff in July took away his velocity; he finished 36-31 over six big-league seasons with the Reds, Royals, Phillies and Angels. Luke Walker - Left-handed Pirates and Tigers pitcher whose 15-6, 3.04 ERA 1970 season helped Pittsburgh reach the postseason, and who started Game Four of Pittsburgh's 1971 World Series win.
