The story on this card
Mike Adamson shares #362 in the 1971 Topps Rookie Stars subset with Roger Freed, both pictured with the Baltimore Orioles, from the third series. Adamson pitched in 3 games for Baltimore in 1967, 2 in 1968 and 6 in 1969, going 0-4 with a 7.46 ERA, and his last major league game came on May 7, 1969. Right-hander who went straight from USC to the Orioles bullpen in 1967 without a day in the minors, pitching parts of three big-league seasons before finishing his career in Milwaukee's farm system.
Baltimore still appears on this third-series Rookie Stars card, #362, which pairs Freed with Mike Adamson, but the Orioles had traded him to the Phillies on December 15, 1970, for Grant Jackson, Jim Hutto and Sam Parrilla. Manager Frank Lucchesi named him the right fielder, and in the second home game at new Veterans Stadium he hit a grand slam off Montreal's Howie Reed. From April 19 to June 18 he hit .208, and he started 93 games in right field, the most of any season in his career. Outfielder and first baseman who won two minor league Player of the Year awards and played for five major league clubs. He hit .398 for the 1977 Cardinals and won a game with a walk-off grand slam in 1979.
