About Pat Dobson
Dobson broke into the majors with Detroit in 1967 and picked up a World Series ring the next year, throwing 4⅔ relief innings in the Tigers' 1968 championship over St. Louis. Traded first to San Diego, then to Baltimore, he broke out in 1971: a 20-8, 2.90 ERA season built on a 12-game winning streak and nine straight complete games made him one of four Orioles starters — alongside Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, and Jim Palmer — to win 20 games, a feat only the 1920 White Sox had also achieved. That November he no-hit the Yomiuri Giants in Tokyo, the first no-hitter in Japanese-American exhibition history. An All-Star in 1972, Dobson was dealt to Atlanta and then, in June 1973, to the Yankees, where he anchored the rotation and went 19-15 in 1974 — the era captured on card #44. His Lancaster, New York, high school teammates had nicknamed him "The Cobra." He retired in 1977, later coaching for four big-league clubs before dying of leukemia in 2006.
