Mario Guerrero was a Dominican shortstop who played 697 major league games from 1973 to 1980 for the Red Sox, Cardinals, Angels and Athletics, hitting .257 with 7 home runs. The Yankees signed him in 1968, and he went to Boston on June 30, 1972, as the player to be named later in the Sparky Lyle trade for Danny Cater. He debuted on April 8, 1973, and in 1974 shared shortstop with Rick Burleson. A trade to St. Louis in April 1975 and another to California in 1976 followed, and he hit .284 for the Angels that year. His busiest season was 1978 with Oakland, when he played 143 games and drove in a career-high 38 runs. He played all 116 games of 1980 at shortstop for Oakland, and Seattle released him in spring training 1981. His brother Epy was a noted Blue Jays scout, and Mario later worked as a player agent and helped at Epy's academy near Santo Domingo. He died on July 2, 2023.
