1979 Topps #181 Mike Garman

About Mike Garman
Card #181 shows Garman with the Expos, who gave up Gerry Hannahs and Larry Landreth to get him. Across Los Angeles and Montreal he appeared in 57 games and saved 13 with a 4.40 ERA. He missed the Expos' 1979 roster in spring training and signed a minor league deal with Pittsburgh.
Mike Garman was a right-handed relief pitcher from Caldwell, Idaho, who pitched for five major league clubs between 1969 and 1978. The Boston Red Sox took him third overall in the 1967 draft at age 17, ahead of every other pitcher that year. He reached Boston as a September call-up in 1969, and Louisville manager Darrell Johnson later turned him into a reliever. After a 1973 season used mostly in mop-up work, he was traded to St. Louis in a six-player deal, and his best years followed there: a 7-2 record with a 2.64 ERA in 1974 and a 2.39 ERA with ten saves in 1975. The Cardinals sent him to the Cubs for Don Kessinger. In January 1977 the Cubs sent him and Rick Monday to the Dodgers for Bill Buckner, Ivan De Jesus and Jeff Albert, and he made his only postseason appearances that fall. Los Angeles traded him to Montreal in May 1978. He finished with 22 wins, 42 saves and a 3.63 ERA in 303 games.
