1955 Topps #198 Yogi Berra
Yogi Berra, three-time AL MVP - one of the most sought-after high numbers.

About Yogi Berra
Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra, the greatest catcher of his era, was signed by the New York Yankees for a $500 bonus in 1943 and played briefly for the minor-league Norfolk Tars before serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Reaching the Bronx in 1946, he spent 18 seasons behind the plate for the Yankees (1946-1963) and closed his 19-season career with the crosstown Mets in 1965. An 18-time All-Star and three-time AL MVP (1951, 1954, and 1955), Berra anchored a Yankees dynasty that won more titles than any in history. He played on a record 14 pennant winners and a record 10 World Series champions, more than any player ever. Over 2,120 games he batted .285 with 2,150 hits, 358 home runs, and 1,430 RBI. His nickname came from a boyhood friend who thought he resembled a Hindu yogi sitting cross-legged. Later a manager and beloved source of "Yogi-isms" like "It ain't over 'til it's over," Berra was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1972. This high-number card, issued in one of his MVP seasons, is among the most coveted in the 1955 Topps set.

Variations & how to tell them apart
High Number (#161-210)
Series 2 (#161-210) shipped in the fall against the new football-card season, so retailers cut their orders and far fewer were printed. As a result the set's biggest high-number names - Roberto Clemente (RC), Willie Mays, Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Gil Hodges and Duke Snider - are tougher than low-number stars such as Williams, Robinson and Aaron.
