About Bert Hamric
Odbert Herman "Bert" Hamric, an outfielder born in 1928 in West Virginia, signed with the Brooklyn organization and spent most of a 1949-1961 pro career starring in the minor leagues, where he collected roughly 1,000 hits at about a .300 clip. His finest season came in 1954, when he led the American Association with a .350 average and finished third in All-Star voting, just ahead of Rocky Colavito. That earned the left-handed hitter a look with the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers, the club that would win the franchise's first and only World Series. Buried behind an outfield of Snider, Furillo and Amoros, he got into just two April games without ever taking the field, and later appeared in eight games for the 1958 Baltimore Orioles. All ten of his big-league appearances came as a pinch runner or pinch hitter, and he batted .111 in the majors. This is his lone Topps card, a high-number rookie card issued in the set's tougher second series.
