1957 Topps #332 Bob Bowman
Scarce fourth series: #265-352 is the tough run of the 1957 set — roughly twice as hard to find as the other series ("tough, not rare"). No documented reason survives; the best-researched account is that Topps printed the hastily assembled final series in quantity and left Series 4 with the shortest run.

About Bob Bowman
Bob Bowman, born May 10, 1930, in Laytonville, California, starred in three sports at San Jose's Lincoln High before signing in 1950 with the Class D Klamath Falls Gems, initially as a pitcher. Converted to the outfield, he climbed through the minors and reached the Philadelphia Phillies, debuting April 16, 1955. A right-handed right fielder, Bowman won the regular job in 1957 and was celebrated for a throwing arm rated among the National League's best; manager Mayo Smith said opposing third-base coaches threw up their hands when Bowman wound up. He hit a league-leading .406 as a 1958 pinch-hitter, then in 1959 briefly returned to the mound when the Phillies ran short of relievers. Over five seasons (1955-1959) he batted .249 with 17 home runs and 54 RBIs in 256 games. This scarce Series Four card is his Topps rookie.
