1958 Topps #307 Brooks Robinson

About Brooks Robinson
Brooks Robinson signed with the Baltimore Orioles in 1955 and played all 23 of his major-league seasons (1955-1977) at third base for the club. Nicknamed "The Human Vacuum Cleaner" for his peerless glovework, he won 16 consecutive Gold Gloves and was named an All-Star every season from 1960 through 1974. Robinson was the 1964 American League MVP and led Baltimore to World Series championships in 1966 and 1970. His 1970 Series was a defensive masterpiece-he batted .429 with two home runs while robbing the Cincinnati Reds again and again, earning World Series MVP honors; Reds slugger Lee May took to calling him "Mr. Hoover." He retired with 2,848 hits and more games played at a single position than anyone in history. A first-ballot Hall of Famer in 1983, Robinson remains the benchmark against which defensive third basemen are measured.
