1960 Topps #388 1959 World Series Game #4 - Hodges' Winning Homer
Part of the seven-card 1959 World Series subset (#385-391) — the first World Series cards in any baseball set.
Cards #375-440 were printed on two back stocks, white and gray. White is the scarcer of the two, and the difference is the tint of the cardboard on the reverse — it is a stock variation, not a design change, so both backs read identically.

The players on this card
Game 4 of the 1959 World Series was played October 5 before 92,650 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, with Early Wynn opposing Roger Craig. The Dodgers broke through for four runs in a two-out third-inning rally, keyed by RBI singles from Norm Larker and Gil Hodges and a run-scoring hit from John Roseboro, before Chicago answered in the seventh, when Ted Kluszewski's single and Sherm Lollar's three-run homer tied it at 4-4. Larry Sherry, already the Series' most reliable reliever, took over to start the eighth, and in the bottom half Hodges led off against Gerry Staley with a home run to left-center for what proved to be the winning run. Sherry finished with a scoreless ninth, and Los Angeles held on for a 5-4 win and a 3-1 Series lead.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-08-20. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Neither grader separates the white and gray back stocks on this card, so the counts below cover both. The Venezuelan issue, the 1960 Topps Tattoos and Bazooka are separate products and are not counted here.
