The players on this card
Card #18 is the Los Angeles Dodgers' 1960 team issue, doubling as the set's first-series checklist. Coming off their 1959 World Series title, the Dodgers slipped to fourth in 1960, finishing 82-72, thirteen games behind the pennant-winning Pittsburgh Pirates. Manager Walter Alston's club still played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where a 42-foot screen sat just 251 feet down the left-field line. Shortstop Maury Wills swiped 50 bases, the first of six straight National League stolen-base titles that reinvented the running game. Right fielder Frank Howard, a 6-foot-7 rookie slugger, hit .268 with 23 homers and 77 RBI to win NL Rookie of the Year. Don Drysdale anchored the rotation with 246 strikeouts, while a young, still-wild Sandy Koufax posted an 8-13 mark. Aging stars Duke Snider and Gil Hodges rounded out a roster in transition.
