1960 Topps #62 Roger Craig

About Roger Craig
Roger Craig, a 6-foot-4 right-hander out of Durham, North Carolina, signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 and reached the majors in July 1955, beating Cincinnati in his first big-league start. That October he helped Brooklyn topple the Yankees for the franchise's only World Series title, winning Game 5. Card #62 catches him with the Los Angeles Dodgers, for whom he anchored the 1959 pennant-winning rotation with a sparkling 2.06 ERA and a league-best four shutouts in just 17 starts. Traded to St. Louis in 1964, he pitched scoreless relief as the Cardinals beat the Yankees that October, closing his playing days with four World Series rings. In between, Craig became a symbol of expansion-era futility, dropping an 18-game personal losing streak with the 1962-63 Mets; manager Casey Stengel told him, "You've gotta be good to lose that many." He later reinvented himself as baseball's foremost split-finger fastball evangelist, teaching the pitch to Jack Morris and Mike Scott, then managed the San Francisco Giants to the 1989 National League pennant behind his rallying cry of "Humm Baby."
