1970 Topps #303 Brant Alyea

About Brant Alyea
Alyea's 1969 line was .249 with 59 hits in 237 at-bats and 29 runs. The Senators traded him to Minnesota the next spring for pitchers Joe Grzenda and Charlie Walters, so his #303, from the third series, still shows him with Washington.
Brant Alyea was a power-hitting outfielder who spent six seasons in the majors with the Washington Senators, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics and St. Louis Cardinals. Signed by Cincinnati out of Hofstra, where he had also starred in basketball, he was drafted away by Washington and made his major-league debut in September 1965, homering on the first pitch of his first big-league at-bat. He played outfield for the Senators in 1968 and 1969, then had his best season for Minnesota in 1970, hitting .291 with 16 home runs and 61 RBIs before going hitless in the Twins' ALCS loss to Baltimore that fall. A groin injury cut short his final major-league season, 1972, split between Oakland and St. Louis. Alyea also played winter ball in Venezuela, where he twice led the league in home runs. After baseball he worked at an Atlantic City casino and later at a car dealership near Philadelphia.
