1970 Topps #175 Dick Bosman

About Dick Bosman
Bosman became the Senators' ace in 1970, going 16-12 with a 3.00 ERA, a career high in wins. He struck out 134 in 230 2/3 innings. His one-hit, 1-0 shutout of Minnesota allowed only a single by Cesar Tovar. Washington fell from 86 wins to 70, and Bosman was the only pitcher on the staff to reach double digits in wins. He has two cards: #68, a shared League Leaders card with Jim Palmer and Mike Cuellar, from the first series, and #175, from the second.
Richard Allen Bosman was a right-handed pitcher who spent eight seasons with the Washington Senators and Texas Rangers before finishing his career with Cleveland and Oakland. Signed by Pittsburgh in 1963, he was later drafted by the Senators and debuted in the majors on June 1, 1966. In 1969, under new manager Ted Williams, Bosman went 14-5 and led the American League with a 2.19 ERA as Washington posted its first winning season in franchise history. He started both the last game in Senators history and the first game in Rangers history. On July 19, 1974, pitching for Cleveland, he no-hit the defending World Series champion Oakland Athletics, missing a perfect game only because of his own fielding error. He closed his playing days with Oakland in 1975-76, then worked as a pitching coach for the White Sox, Orioles and Rangers and in the Rays' system.
