The story on this card
Game 3 of the 1970 N.L. Championship Series was played October 5 at Riverfront Stadium. Tony Perez and Johnny Bench homered in succession off Bob Moose in the first inning, and the game stood tied 2-2 when Moose got two outs in the eighth, then walked pinch-hitter Ty Cline. Pete Rose singled, and Pittsburgh manager Danny Murtaugh brought in lefty Joe Gibbon. Bobby Tolan singled to left, Cline broke from second, and he beat Willie Stargell's throw to the plate by a hair for a 3-2 lead. Don Gullett got Al Oliver to ground to Tommy Helms in the ninth to finish the sweep and give the Reds their first pennant in nine years. Topps pictured the moment on 1971 Topps #201, "Cline Scores Winning Run!", one of the Playoffs cards in the second series.
