1971 Topps #644 Jim Stewart

About Jim Stewart
The best pinch-hitter on the 1970 pennant winners, Stewart went 13 for 39 and hit .267 in 101 games, and Tommy Helms recalled him catching an inning in Los Angeles that year. In October he went 0 for 2 against Pittsburgh in the NLCS and 0 for 2 in the World Series, which Baltimore won in five games. His 1971 Topps card is #644, in the sixth series, and shows him with the Reds.
James Franklin Stewart was a switch-hitting utility infielder-outfielder who spent ten major league seasons, 1963 to 1973, with the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros. Signed by the Cubs out of Austin Peay State College, where he had starred in baseball, basketball and track, he broke in with Chicago in September 1963 and logged his busiest season there in 1964. He played every position but pitcher, earning the nickname Super Sub with the Reds for his willingness to fill in anywhere. He appeared in the 1970 National League Championship Series and World Series for Cincinnati, closing out his playing days with Houston in 1972 and 1973. He finished with a .237 career average over 777 games, then spent decades afterward as a minor league manager and major league scout for the Reds and Phillies.
