The story on this card

A six-player deal on December 1, 1970, sent Severinsen, Enzo Hernandez, Tom Phoebus and Fred Beene to the Padres for Pat Dobson and Tom Dukes. He pitched in 30 of San Diego's first 56 games in 1971. He finished 2-5 with a 3.47 ERA. Card #747 in the sixth series, a Rookie Stars issue, pairs him with Scipio Spinks of the Astros and Balor Moore of the Expos. Al Severinsen was a Brooklyn-born right-handed reliever from Long Island who pitched for the 1969 Baltimore Orioles and the 1971-72 San Diego Padres before settling in Mystic, Connecticut.

Back at Oklahoma City in 1971, Spinks struck out 173 in 133 innings. He then made five September appearances for Houston, three of them starts, going 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA. His first big-league win came September 6 at Atlanta, a 6-4 complete game in which he survived a three-run homer by Earl Williams. Card #747, a Rookie Stars card, pairs him with Al Severinsen of the Padres and Balor Moore of the Expos, with Spinks printed with the Astros. Chicago-born right-hander with the Astros and Cardinals from 1969 to 1973, known for a Northern League record 20-strikeout game in 1966 and a fastball that put him among the National League strikeout leaders in 1972.

Moore is the third name on Rookie Stars card #747, a trio from three clubs: Al Severinsen with the Padres, Scipio Spinks with the Astros and Moore with the Expos. It is the sixth-series issue and Moore's rookie card. It followed his 1970 trial, when he pitched 9 2/3 innings in six games and went 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA. Left-hander Balor Moore, the Expos' first draft pick in 1969, pitched 1970-80 for Montreal, California and Toronto. He struck out 161 batters in 1972, then never regained that form after elbow surgery, finishing 28-48.
