About this card

Cards #459-466 recap the 1974 postseason: the two League Championship Series and the five games of the A's-Dodgers World Series.

About 1974 World Series Game 2

Two days after the A's won the opener, the Dodgers evened the 1974 World Series behind Don Sutton, who outdueled Vida Blue in a 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium on October 13. Joe Ferguson's two-run homer in the sixth inning supplied the winning margin. Oakland threatened in the ninth when Joe Rudi's two-run single cut the lead to one, but manager Alvin Dark lifted Rudi for designated pinch runner Herb Washington, the world-class sprinter signed purely to steal bases. Dodgers reliever Mike Marshall promptly picked Washington off first, then retired Ray Fosse to end it. The teams returned to Oakland tied at a game apiece, but the A's won three straight there to finish off the Dodgers in five games and claim their third consecutive championship.
