1975 Topps #253 Jesus Alou

About Jesus Alou
Jesús María Rojas Alou signed with the San Francisco Giants for a $1,500 bonus in August 1958, the youngest of three brothers who reached the majors together with Felipe and Matty. Converted from pitcher to outfielder in the minors, he broke in on September 10, 1963, batting behind both siblings in the same inning — the first time three brothers did so in major-league history — and five days later the trio started together in the Giants' outfield, an alignment never repeated. A right-handed line-drive hitter, Alou played six seasons in San Francisco before moving to the Houston Astros (1969–73), Oakland Athletics (1973–74), New York Mets (1975), and back to Houston (1978–79). With Oakland he won back-to-back World Series titles in 1973–74, the run behind his 1975 Topps card (#253), which still shows him in Athletics green though he'd already been dealt to the Mets. His Latino teammates called him "Chuchito," the Spanish diminutive of Jesús. He retired with a .280 average and 377 RBI over 15 seasons, later scouting and running the Red Sox's Dominican academy.
