1975 Topps #452 Angel Mangual

About Angel Mangual
Ángel Mangual signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates as an amateur free agent in 1966, recruited by scout Pancho Coimbre — the same scout who had discovered fellow Puerto Rican Roberto Clemente. After earning Eastern League MVP honors in 1969, Mangual debuted with Pittsburgh that September and was traded to Oakland in October 1970. There he picked up the nickname "Little Clemente," a nod to that shared scout and shared homeland. His signature moment came in Game 4 of the 1972 World Series: trailing Cincinnati in the ninth, he lined a walk-off single that capped three straight pinch-hits — a World Series record — and pushed Oakland to a 3-1 series lead. He'd also driven in the winning run of a 20-inning marathon against the Angels in 1971. Mangual was part of Oakland's three consecutive championships from 1972 to 1974, retiring in 1976 with a .245 average, 22 home runs, and 125 RBIs over seven seasons. He died in Ponce, Puerto Rico, in 2021.
