1975 Topps #400 Dick Allen
Dick Allen with the All-Star flag — inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2025.

About Dick Allen
Dick Allen signed with the Phillies out of Wampum, Pennsylvania for a $70,000 bonus in 1960 and broke in as one of the most feared sluggers of his era. A first baseman and third baseman, he won 1964 NL Rookie of the Year in Philadelphia, then moved through St. Louis and Los Angeles before a December 1971 trade for Tommy John brought him to the White Sox. Playing first base exclusively under manager Chuck Tanner, Allen delivered a monster 1972 — a league-leading 37 home runs, 113 RBI, and the AL MVP award — then topped the AL in homers again in 1974, the crown pictured on his League Leaders card here. He made all three of his White Sox seasons All-Star teams, reflected on his base card by the printed All-Star flag. A seven-time All-Star with a career .534 slugging percentage, Allen was nicknamed "Crash" after he took to wearing his batting helmet in the field for protection from fans hurling debris at him in Philadelphia, and "the Wampum Walloper" for his hometown power. He died in 2020; the Classic Baseball Era Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame on July 27, 2025.
